Manufacturing Engineer
My client has extensive capability in the design and manufacture of motion technology products to meet the requirements of todays state-of-the-art aerospace and defence programmes.
Scope of Role
Work within an operations environment to provide the Manufacturing Engineering expertise in supporting the manufacture of existing / new products and associated processes, devising improved processes and being capable of positively representing the company to customers and suppliers in a technical role.
Main Responsibilities
Working with the Manufacturing Supervisors and Operators, to improve manufacturing productivity, reduce standard times,   and reduce rework / scrap based on root cause analysis data. The candidate will be familiar with Lean Manufacturing principles and apply them to increase capacity, reduce lead times and subsequently improve on-time delivery to the customer.
·Solving manufacturing problems by use of RCA techniques, and eliminating recurrence by Pokayoke applications.
·Working with teams led by Project Leaders consisting of Electro-magnetic, Mechanical and Electronic Design Engineers and Quality Engineers to apply knowledge and skill to ensure new products are designed with DFM / DFA in mind.
·Transferring new products into lean manufacturing cells.
·Developing specific ?Lean? training as necessary.
·Ability to coach, influence and lead other engineers in junior or peer groups, across all engineering disciplines.
Generation and maintenance of:
·BOMs / Routings on my clients MRP system (AS400)
·New product tooling design cost estimates
·PFMEAs
·Manufacturing documentation
·Tooling designs required for product manufacture
·Process Specifications
·Capital Authorisation requests for plant
Work within company procedures and contribute to their development, the objective being to maximise company efficiency whilst meeting all customer requirements.
Education and Qualifications:
Essential - HNC in Mechanical, Electronics or Manufacturing Engineering
Desirable - Degree in Mechanical, Electronics or Manufacturing Engineering
Skills:
Essential:-
·Good presentational skills
· Enthusiastic talented Engineer
· Ability to motivate a small team
· Experience of using Fishbone / Ishikawa diagrams.
· Good grasp of the concepts of standard times, efficiency, utilisation and productivity, and their measurement.
Desirable
· Sound understanding of Lean techniques including DFMA, 5S, Kaisen, SMED, TPM, Pokayoke,
· 6Sigma qualified.

Essential Experience:-
· 5 years technical and problem solving experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.
· Direct experience of working in a Lean Manufacturing operation
· Work flow balancing.
· Aerospace or very closely related industry
· Generation and maintenance of process maps, PFMEAs, control plans, etc.
· PC skills are essential (MS Office)
· Able to design tools and fixtures using CAD.
· Work study techniques
Desirable Experience:-
· 10 years technical and problem solving experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
· Experience of automotive supply manufacturing or FMCG.
· Knowledge of MRPII system
· Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
· Proven record of successfully implementing Lean in an industrial environment (either as a co-ordinator or as a leader)
· Theoretical background and practical experience in process control techniques such as, gauge repeatability and reproducibility, design of experiments and statistical process control
· Experience in carrying out complete Root Cause Analysis
· Experience in the manufacture of one or more of the following products:
- DC brushed and brushless motors
- Torque motors
- AC induction motors
- Stepper motors
- DC and AC tacho generators
- Resolvers
- Pick-offs
