Procurement Manager

Procurement Manager
My client specialises in the design and manufacture of high-end track balls and computer input devices for OEMs man machine interface solutions.
Scope of Role:
To ensure the introduction and maintenance of - Best in Class? procurement practices ensuring all internal and external company procedures are met.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
· To negotiate contracts with suppliers
· To develop department policies ensuring they are implemented and adhered to by the business
· To review regularly with suppliers their performance (price & On-time delivery) and agree improvement action plans with them
· To establish a quality conscious and responsive supply chain, servicing the needs for prototype and production manufacture
· To directly manage supply partners, carrying out supplier assessment/audits in conjunction with the Quality Department
· To undertake all people management responsibilities relating to direct reports from recruitment to termination
· To promote good working relationships with the supply base and building of long-term partnerships
· To implement and maintain frame contracts with the key suppliers to cover contractual agreements, flowing down customer requirements where applicable.
· To monitor the supplier delivery performance, encouraging and demanding high standards of delivery integrity.
· To carry out benchmarking exercises to ensure prices paid are industry competitive.
· To implement and manage cost reduction projects aimed at lowering material cost, improving the form of supply and removing complexity from internal assembly processes.
· To liaise closely with the Engineering Department to ensure supply chain involvement in the component design process, to ensure integrity/stability of parts prior to production release and to identify/avoid component obselescence.
· To ensure procurement policies maintain the inventory at the minimum practical level.
· To ensure smooth transition of products from the development to the production phase.
· To re-engineer procurement practices to simplify administration and compliment the companys Lean initiatives.
· To maintain a disciplined approach to business in accordance with ISO9001 & AS9100.
· To encourage a spirit of teamwork with all internal customers and the supply chain.
· To delegate a purchasing team representative to each product development team, to ensure the participation of the suppliers at the earliest stage and make sure that the products are designed for cost.
Standard Company Responsibilities
· Take responsibility for understanding the Business Management System and how it is applied to the role.
· Adhere to Health and Safety requirements at all times.
· There is a responsibility on all employees to bring to the attention of their manager any issues that could potentially affect the business, regardless of how small they may seem at the time.
· All duties within this job description should be carried out in line with any Company policies and procedures in place at the time and in line with any requirements set out in the Business Management System.

Qualifications:
· Educated to degree-level or equivalent in a business related subject
· Ideally CIPS Qualification
Skills required:
· Significant IT skills
· Good technical appreciation (able to interpret and discuss drawing/specification details)
· Sound reporting writing skills
· Good presentation skills
· Sound numeracy skills
· Intermediate level ability relating to Microsoft Office
Essential experience required
· Responsible for a stock level of >£1.2m
· Experience of working in an Engineering environment
· Must have proven track record of buying bespoke products
· Sound understanding and experience in modern planning and supply chain management (JIT and Lean)
· Experience of managing a team of people including recruitment, performance management, appraisals etc
· Ability to work primarily on an autonomous basis including decision-making responsibility
Desirable experience required
· Full understanding of regulatory requirements appertaining to the supply of product for the Aerospace industry
· Previous use of Syteline
