PURPOSE OF JOB To undertake the effective management and completion of fluid power engineering design, drafting, technical documentation and associated work load, developing existing and establishing new working practices and systems to keep abreast of technical demands and developments within customer, supplier and regulatory bodies.
JOB LOCATION Local Branch and/or other group locations as and where necessary.
RESPONSIBILITY & ROUTINE DUTIES: 1. To liaise with engineering staff, customers and suppliers both on and off site, offering technical solutions, diagrams, drawings, documentation, procedures, guidance and support. 2. To ensure work is undertaken and completed within reasonable time scales to produce a quality product at a price profitable to the Company. 3. To ensure that work is carried out in accordance with the procedures and practices stipulated in the Company Quality Manual, Technical Directory, Approved Codes of Practice, and in accordance with statutory safe practice and procedure. 4. To undergo general and specific vocational training in house, at the premises of nominated suppliers and at nominated educational institutes, in addition to on the job guidance. 5. To identify and develop the scope, skills and equipment necessary for extending the fluid power engineering capabilities of the company. 6. To assist in identifying the training needs of engineering personnel at all levels. 7. Responsible for the routine administration, record keeping and retrieval of all related engineering work load information.
NON-ROUTINE DUTIES To carry out other duties and special projects as may from time to time be required by management, and drawing on the special skills and abilities necessary to perform the Design Engineers role.
AUTHORITY AND DISCRETION 1. Not to purposefully commit the company to financial loss, and/or commit resources in terms of product and/or manpower to any enterprise which is not to the company’s commercial benefit. 2. To identify any resource necessary for the effective functioning of the engineering division, and to report accordingly to senior management. 3. To report any developments of commercial interest at suppliers, competition or customers immediately to senior management.
LIASION 1. To maintain good relations with all people contacted during the normal course of business: • Internal: a) Staff b) Managers c) Directors • External: a) Customer employees at all levels b) Supplier employees at all levels c) British Standard Institute or similar quality body employees at all levels 2. To provide regular reports and liaison with immediate superiors on all aspects of routine and non routine duties.
TARGETS 1. To maximise the potential of all sales opportunities ensuring that quality and productivity remain consistent with company policy. 2. To work towards a Total Quality Management [TQM] system.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING The company has a policy of personnel development via internal and external training provision.You are expected to participate in this training either on specified courses or through courses identified by yourself.
CONDITIONS 1. This position requires a minimum of a Higher National Certificate in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline in engineering. 2. A current clean driving licence is required.
