Our client specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from initial concepts, through planning, to full implementation. They are seeking to recruit an Associate Director or Technical Director to join the team in our growing Development Infrastructure department at our Basingstoke Office. The Development Infrastructure department specialises in providing high level advice (including expert witness services) to mainly private sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Signal Design, Drainage, Flood Protection, Earthworks and Service Co-ordination on Residential, Business Parks, Retail, Industrial and Commercial Developments, both in the UK and overseas. We provide advice on the implications of climate change and the wider sustainability issues. Responsibilities Your principal role will be day to day management of a team, project management, concept studies and hands on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawings. You can expect to be active on a number of projects/client accounts at any given time. The position will also involve building up a team, day to day management of a team of support staff, client liaison and business development. It represents an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate. Working very closely with our established Development Planning team, the successful candidate will report directly to a Director. Requirements You will be Chartered status (CEng, MICE, IHT or CIWEM) and have at least 10 years experience in both Highway and Drainage design, with strong management and leadership skills and have a wide knowledge of the Development Industry. You will have a significant knowledge of the legal processes, planning, design, design software, technical consents process, adoption and contract procedures for the provision of sewers, flood protection, highways and utilities in new developments and regeneration projects and how if, applied effectively, these skills combine to add value to a clients development proposal. You will be able to produce masterplans, technical reports, written evidence for planning enquiries and write the relevant sections of environmental statements. You will be able to carry out stage 1 of FRAs. Experience as expert witness at planning enquiries and or litigation cases would be advantageous. Probably from a consultancy or developer background with a heavy bias on private sector work, you will need to have good written and spoken communication skills including report writing and be aware of current and emerging technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability. You will have a proven record in client care/business development and have a number of clients that see you as their principal contact. You will also have a robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
