Our client is a Microsoft Gold Partner with a continually growing product range. The focus for this role is the ongoing development of my clients existing products, primarily written in VB6/C++, the generation of test scripts in C++, GUI testing and the ability to understand and diagnose problems in the current financial products. The role will include system set-up, fault replication and analysis, software fixes and advising the support/development teams on possible solutions. May also include customer visits for diagnosis (UK sites only). The products portfolio is currently undergoing a phased re-write in C#.Net Framework and there will be an opportunity at a later stage to upgrade skills to support these new products.
It would suit an individual with strong technical and interpersonal skills, with the experience to communicate at all levels across the company and with the ability to express their ideas clearly with individuals at varying levels of technical awareness.   
The ideal candidate is a rapid learner, happy to be bug-chasing and fixing across a range of products for the majority of the first year, as part of a small team. A high quality of work is also particularly important.
The successful applicant will see their career progressing within the Development team and must be methodical, patient and a thorough developer who is a self-starter with the maturity to tackle and solve problems. A minimum of 3 years commercial VB6/C++ experience is required, along with 3 years experience of developing applications using a relational database, preferably SQL Server.
Experience in developing middleware, financial/payment or EDI solutions in a client-server application would be a distinct advantage as would knowledge of one or more of the following C#, COM, XML, UML and ADO.NET.
